Frecciarossa 1000 electric train
Source: Wikipedia
Frecciarossa 1000 is the commercial name of the most powerful high-speed electric train ever built in Italy and can reach a maximum speed of 400 km/h; However, on Italian HS/HC lines it can circulate at a maximum commercial speed of 300 km/h as at the moment the national HS network does not allow higher speeds due to the risk of the ballast being sucked in and excessive wear of the bogies due to the forces in play present at such speeds.
The first Frecciarossa 1000 to enter service was christened with the name "Pietro Mennea" in honor of the Italian athlete who died on 21 March 2013, Olympic champion and holder of the world record in the 200 meters from 1979 to 1996.
On 25 April 2015, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Italy, the train made its debut on the Milan-Rome route, traveled in 2 hours and 40 minutes with the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella on board.
